In Memory of the beautiful Brittany Murphy!

*This post was supposed to be up yesterday, but sadly it slipped my mind and I feel terrible. We lost a great Hollywood act two years ago at a young age, one of my favorite actresses!

Yesterday unfortunately marked the two year anniversary of the death of actress Brittany Murphy, a death that was both sad and unexpected. Murphy's death was later classified as an accident after discovering the actress had been taking a range of over the counter, legal prescription drugs that were used to fight an infection or cold. The news of the death being an accident sadden me even more. Murphy was a bright, young star who was featured in a number of my favorite films like Don't Say a Word, Sin City, Girl, Interrupted, Just Married and of course... Clueless.
The whole world knew Brittany as a talented actress, but only a few would know that she had also jumped into the music scene a couple of times before her death. In the movie, Happy Feet, Murphy was able to actually sing the songs that her character did in the film. This was not her first try at music though. In June 2006, Paul Oakenfold, a British DJ, released his second studio album, A Lively Mind, which received a Grammy nomination in 2007. The first single, “Faster Kill Pussycat, featured the vocals of the fabulous Brittany Murphy.
“Faster Kill Pussycat” was a up-tempo, house track that eventually took the number one position on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, giving the actress her first hit as a vocalist. Shortly after her death, the song re-entered UK's Singles Chart where it peaked at number seven. The track was pretty damn good. It had Murphy singing some sultry lyrics with a surprisingly great voice that had me hooked after I came across the interesting piece when I was still in high school. Rumors of a full length album from Murphy quickly developed after the song's release, but nothing ever materialized.
A dark music video for the track was released as well, mostly showing close ups of the beauty as she lays down the lyrics in front of the fast-paced beat in downtown Los Angeles. Murphy seems to be playing the leader of a never ending party and I had never seen her look more beautiful. The video premiered one day on MTV, which I happened to see, but after that I never came across the video on TV again. A high quality version of the music video is hard to find, but be sure to take a look at the actress' only one below.
Brittany Murphy passed away too soon. The actress was only tapping into her full talent, even though her last film releases went straight to DVD. The films that she starred in are in my collection and will be played for years to come. When she dipped her feet into the music world, I knew it would be the start of something great, but unfortunately her second, hidden talent was never able to fully shine in the way that I hoped. I really do miss her quirky attitude and the sex appeal that only she could give. Rest in Peace Brittany and know you are missed by me.
