The electoral commission declared that the current President, Pierre Nkurunziza got nearly 70 percent of the votes in the presidential election held on Tuesday that was marred with violence and intimidation of voters and boycott by main opposition parties.
His closest rival, Agathon Rwasa got 18.99% of the votes.
Nkurunziza's third term bid resulted in mass protests by the citizens and a failed coup. Amnesty International on Thursday released a report that lethal force was used on protesters who were opposed to Nkurunziza's third term bid.
Over 100 people are said to have died following protests against Nkurunziza's third term bid.
Opposition parties say they will not accept the results as Nkurunziza's third term bid is unconstitutional.
