Today hubby and I made a trip to the town where we grew up, where we had to drop some things off. We made a day of it with a driving tour from one end of town to the other and a picnic. These are some of my favorite things about our trip...
There are no restaurants in our town, but soon there will be. The Lake Harris Lodge is being built and it is being built on the site of the former Lake Harris House bar and grill, which happens to be where hubby proposed. Unfortunately, they tore the original building down (it was in pretty bad shape) and I don't have a photo of it.
We drove by the house where I grew up. It looks different now. My mom always wanted to have black shutters on her white house, I'm sure she's pleased that the present owners felt the same. That pine tree sure has grown... I remember when it wasn't even as tall as the house!
Geese... in all the years (twenty) that I lived there I don't remember seeing geese!
We picnicked at the town park. It has a magnificent view of the Adirondack Mountains. You can't really see them here but the views here are just awesome.
There is a monument that shows where each mountain is. If you stand dead center, the top of the glass-like part of the monument mimics the range of mountains. Each mountain is numbered and there is a legend on the surface below. It's pretty cool.
This is a tribute to all of the young men from our town who served in the Viet Nam War. We were so fortunate in that every single one of our boys came home.
I cannot figure out how to take selfies so that we can see what's behind us, in this case, the mountains. Nor can I take a photo with my sunglasses pushed up on my nose where they belong because I can't see my phone screen through my sunglasses. My old phone had an outdoor screen setting which made that possible and I sure do miss it! As you can see it was really windy! Pretty good photo of hubby though!
And this is the road that we travel to and from home.. Lots of sharp curves... not for the faint of heart!
I hope you were able to find some joy and some favorites this week. Happy weekend!
Thanks for dropping by....
